Abstract:
Lithocaps: Hallmarks of Magmatic-Hydrothermal Systems
Lithocaps are defined by advanced argillic alteration generated during addition of magmatic vapour
to ambient groundwater aquifers. They were first identified in the shallow parts of porphyry copper
systems but are now known in association with a broad spectrum of magmatic-hydrothermal metal
deposits. The talk will summarize their characteristics, with examples from different metal-bearing
systems. Emphasis will be given to lithocap-hosted orebodies, vectoring for sub-lithocap metal
deposits, and their preservation potential.
